How can I direct who manages my affairs when I am unable to?
A lasting power of attorney is a legal document that lets you appoint one or more persons to help you make decisions or to make those decisions on your behalf.
This gives you more control over what happens to you if, for example, you have an accident or an illness and cannot make decisions at the time they need to be made.
We do not always envisage the need or appreciate the benefit of having a power of attorney in place until faced with illness, accident or deteriorating health. It is important to nominate persons to look after your financial arrangements before becoming too ill to do so.
There are two types of lasting power of attorney:
Property and financial affairs
We can also assist with applications to the court of protection for deputyship in the event that no power of attorney is in place.
